Stevie Nicks: Self Portraits

Who knew Stevie Nicks was Queen of the selfie, before the term was even invented?! These self portraits of the (my favourite) singer were taken at home and in hotel rooms throughout the mid-seventies. They have just been released from the shoe-box under the bed, to the public for purchase through the Morrison Hotel Gallery; signed by Stevie!  I love the capturing of make believe in real time; what is more significant to the viewer- the dress up aspect or time and place? It may seem frivolous, but how wonderful to have this strange chronological collection of moments.

Here's what she has to say about the work:

"Some people don't sleep at night - I am one of those people. These pictures were taken long after everyone had gone to bed - I would begin after midnight and go until 4 or 5 in the morning. I stopped at sunrise - like a vampire... I never really thought anyone would ever see these pictures, they went into shoeboxes, where they remained. I did everything - I was the stylist, the makeup artist, the furniture mover, the lighting director. It was my joy - I was the model..."

A girl after my own wild heart; this makes me feel even better now about my floral crown photos!

lust list: Lena Dunham & Missoni for Target.

Hero to all GIRLS- Lena Dunham- has written a book (and was given a 3.7 million dollar advance to do so...just quietly...).  Alexa Chung's book I was happy to flick through at the shop, but this I want to READ!

Also, I'm not even sure how to contain myself over the anticipation of the Missoni for Target collection coming to Australia- Ladies, please, please save something for me!!

Missoni X Converse.

Missoni high top Chuck Taylor's?  Yes please!!  I'm coveting the far left, though I'd be happy with the far right (or any in between). I actually thought I would treat myself to a pair, but alas there are no size 6s left in either. Cute though, right?

fresco towels.

my momma knows what's up! she has just introduced me to Fresco Towels online. W O W. not only are the selections insanely gorgeous, I love the brand ethos as well- all inspired by travel and history. I am 100% coveting a poncho now and that eagle beach towel.

i know it's uncommon, but blue is not one of my favourite colours. it's not that i don't like it, but i didn't grow up with it in my house and i'm often drawn to more citrusy colours like orange & yellow or every shade of green. i even love indigo, but this past week, bright azure goodness has been all over my pinterest page.  i can't tell whether it's me noticing it more or whether it's a new trend in fashion and interiors...but i like it! do i want to paint my kitchen that same punchy hue? yes, i do!

best dressed: oscars 2014

i thought everyone looked beautiful last night! highlights for me included Lupita Nyong'o winning for 12 Years a Slave (though i have yet to see this film); i got a little teary. i loved Cate Blanchett's eloquent speech delivered with such grace. and Ellen was a fun and fabulous host.

my stand-out favourite dress of the night was Lupita Nyong'o in prada.  everyone else came a close second. here are my favourites from this year:

did you know that Jared Leto is 42?! looking good monsieur.

free erin.

while trawling pinterest yesterday, i came across a match made in heaven - erin wasson (remember when i MET HER??!) & free people. be still my bohemian heart. i love the little desert road trippin' story as travel is always on my mind and the little vegas nuptials - with her in a little white dress and the groom in a canadian tuxedo (double denim) - because i've been daydreaming about weddings lately too.

captain and the gypsy kid.

i've been rather clucky this year and stumbling upon the captain and the gypsy kid blog this morning got me even more maybe baby. this blog is 'style inspired by small folk' - i've always said that little kids influence my own dress sense the most, so this is right up my alley. all the image stories are wonderful, but i will post this one to give you a feel for what it's all about. basically, this is how i want my kid to dress all the time. *momma, be on the lookout for cutie items like these in your travels for the treasure chest xo

put a crown on it. outtakes.

there are always a bunch of leftover images from a day's shoot that are still really fun, but just don't make the final cut. i thought i'd share with you some of the outtakes from the most recent daisy crown; the sunshine and crisp blues of the ocean meeting the sky, made this a favourite from the series.

put a crown on it. 12.

you can't look past the daisy when thinking of summer floral crowns…and neither could i! to re-invent this sunny day staple, instead of a simple crown, i made it into a hat (well, that's what i'm calling it). i used the most picture perfect, crisp, tall, white daisies you have ever seen from garlands in sydney. my bangs were getting quite long around this time, so i parted them down the middle (which i never ever do) for a very 60's flower child do. the dress and sunnies give it a bit of a 90's spin for a fun little drew barrymore inspired moment, maybe? needless to say, i am very happy with how this headpiece turned out for the floral crown series and i love the blue skies that went with it. do you have a favourite yet?

paper mag.

i'll admit to sometimes being the person that goes to the shop to flick through all the magazines of interest without buying a single one. oh, and that is definitely my favourite pastime when waiting in line at the grocery store (right?!). i've collected so many mags over the years that sometimes the piles start filling too much space in my small place; i end up holding onto them for way too long, making a few collages in the odd inspiring moment, then recycling the lot. that being said, the humble magazine is having a resurgence in my heart; i've currently got my sights set on these good lookers:
*who can help but be intrigued by kate moss' playboy debut to celebrate her 40th birthday? seriously.

be my valentine.

even though i don't want or 'need' anything (christmas was just the other day for goodness' sake), these three items have hit my love radar; they would make for the perfect valentine's day gifts.

alilamu bag and bedspread made from recycled boat sails, lovely story of here:

dress up: berber bride.

my trip to morocco last year is still inspiring me to this day.  i thought i would combine my girlish love of dress up, with my soft spot for interiors and obsession with travel & culture. here is my take on the moroccan berber bride; all draped in the wedding blankets i brought home from overseas. from interiors to fashion, its almost as if i'm dressed as a favourite room in the house.
