shed a little light...
when i was in japan i was searching for a lamp like the one near the bottom of the page in this post, certain that i would find something similar and equally as cute and kooky there. and i did! this green apple lamp was the biggest purchase i made on that trip (despite wanting every article of clothing in every shop and every adorable pot plant or heart-shaped topiary tree i could see, etc.). after carefully carting it home as carry-on, upon plugging it in, every light out in the house when out. oops! i tripped out the mains. so now for sixth months i have been waiting, wondering how to fix it. then comes mom to the rescue! after many trial and errors and much debate, we ended up buying a cheap (15 dollar) lamp at ikea and having to smash the actual fixture with a hammer to get the electrical fitting from it for my apple lamp. i'll admit, taking a brand new purchase outside to mash to pieces wasn't the easiest task...but i decided my grannie smith was worth it. and she was :)
