trick or treat!

this year for halloween i so badly wanted to dress-up as Pierrot (the sad mime). i suppose there is still time (it's hallow's eve tonight here), but it's not a very big deal in australia. i don't get that same rush of excitement in the cool air that you do in north america. here are some images of costume inspiration that have kept me going for almost a year now...i really should get the paper, scissors and sewing needle out; throw caution to the wind and yell 'trick or treat' tonight! HAPPY HALLOWEEN everyone!!

 rue

or i could be Harlequin (the baddie version of Pierrot essentially) all dressed in motley:

look at these cuties all decked out:

funny feet.

remember how i was obsessing over the astronomical, astrological, celestial and cosmic, here? well, i found some tights the other day that totally fit the bill. not sure if they are exactly wearable...a bit silly looking, really. i tried them on today though (with my favourite galaxy t-shirt):

verdict, anyone...?

flowers in bloom.

spring has sprung in sydney...i'm a sucker for australian natives (proteas are my fave!!) and who doesn't love a bright and cheery poppy?

the spiky cream coloured ones are proteas (king proteas actually...because of their size). i usually see these in a rich rosy pink colour, this white sighting was rare. i've gone to the flower markets in sydney and purchased them for 2 dollars a stem before, but have seen them for as much as 16!! p.s. also love the lily pad flowers in the below image:
i don't know what these honeycomb-like ones are, but i do love them:
poppies galore!

berber.

my feet on a massive, lush moroccan berber rug on location today...don't some people just have it all!? (no, they did- pool, tennis court...everything!).

rachel papo.

thanks to mandy for posting about photographer rachel papo yesterday. her photos of russian ballerinas are so beautiful; holding a very eerie quality. i was especially drawn to them because when i was a young gymnast, i dreamed of being noticed by a russian coach and being sent to train in a soviet (or romanian) training centre to do gymnastics 7 hours a day, 7 days a week. seriously, this grueling schedule seemed romantic to me! this same series of photographs could have easily been captured of gymnasts, instead of dancers, though the ballet does innately behold more lofty dreamlike qualities + the costumes and ornate theatres create magic unto themselves.

p.s. for a time, i also wanted to study acting (the stanislavski technique) at the moscow art theatre school. it's not exactly the same, nor as physically demanding, but i do believe it would be amazing. it would have been the perfect combination of three of my passions out of high school- drama, language and travel.

these two (above and below) are my favourites:

this one reminds me of when i worked in mexico at a resort where we put on extravagant stage shows every night. we had the most amazing backstage area filled with row upon row upon row of costumes hanging over head. oh, and the vanity mirrors with the big lightbulbs (!) and loads of makeup!
