sorry, i haven't been around in the last week. now that i'm home from my incredible trip to fiji there are so many photos i would like to share with you, but fate has it that my poor little computer (despite being brand spankin' new) needs fixing and is in the shop for the next few days. when she's ready, i'm ready to show you some photos from my trip to paradise. until then...

working girl.

i watched working girl for the first time yesterday...although it did feel like i had seen it before, perhaps this was the first time from beginning to end.
wow, what a full-blooded 80's extravaganza. from the booming, soulful gospel anthem in the opening credits to the outrageous costume design to the over the top makeup (joan cusack with eyelids brushed half green, half purple!) rounded off with the big, bigger and biggest, permed, teased, perfect 80's hair. i loved the film. what stole my heart the most from watching it though, was HOW MUCH it reminded me of my mom!! she was totally melanie griffith's character when i was growing up. seeing the nylons with the shoulder-padded business suits, the reeboks with the work outfit for the walk to the office (that was totally my mom!) and that huge leather jacket- it had to have been the inspiration for a strikingly similar purchase on a trip she made to new york in this era. wow, the pangs of nostalgia were strong- almost brought a tear to my eye for that. oh, how i love a feel good film.

and i almost forgot...'you want another answer, ask another girl'. best ever.

bed hunting.

that's it, i've had enough! i'm on the search for a new bed, for real this time. the bed i currently sleep on is not cutting it, i'm sure it's a huge part of the reason i have a sore back most of the time. the frame is entirely nondescript, boring, black metal...given to me years ago by someone who was going to throw it away (thank you, but it's time to be a big girl and buy a proper bed). the mattress (i've heard it's all about the mattress, right?) is annncccciiiiennnnttttt; a hand-me-down from my boyfriend's parents, so let's say almost 30 years old. the time has come. a decision needs to be made...

i've always wanted an amazing old wrought iron bed, like the ones i grew up with:

or do i go simple, with no decorative frame or at least no foot board at all?:

furthermore, do i maintain my all white, multi-textured theme or go completely pattern & colour crazy?:

favourite things.

i took a few shots of the cozy, warm atmosphere at the favourite things- vintage & handmade markets this weekend at the beach road hotel in bondi. come down next saturday between 12-6 to check out the goodies. you can grab a bite to eat, have a cider (or red wine or...) and seek some shelter from the cold while eyeing some special wares at these indoor markets. this is the ticket that bondi has been missing; come be a part of this something different. there are treasures galore, music and shiny, happy faces. dig the cruisy vibe.
....here are a few of my favourite things:

be sure to come say hi to us next week!
