hair inspo: 90's.

oh, claire with your sleek barretted bob and winona with your cute cropped do- you girls look good.  it seems as though you could have both; you start out with the super crop (check) and then grow it out into the bob. perfect plan.

hair inspo: the great gatsby.

what i wouldn't give to have been part of those party scenes in baz luhrmann's the great gatsby- the latest film version of the F. Scott Fitzgerald masterpiece novel. the decadence, the dancing, the costumes, the HAIR (which of course was always embellished with extra dazzling goodies). oof. so good. who doesn't feel a little inspired by the 20's bob as it is? my favourite from the film were those that were cut into creamy candy coloured strands- i'm totally wanting to now get a pastel purple do myself. oh, and in due time, i will!

hair update!

so, a little over a week ago i posted my hair inspiration for my latest chop. it was a big one as i had my chest length hair hacked, then permed, then cut into a little messy bob. it looked like this:

it was pretty cute for a couple of days, but it really wasn't nearly as curly as i had asked for. to top that off, some pieces of the perm had completely fallen and were totally straight. it took a lot of work to get it boppy and fun every morning, plus it was bumming me out that i just didn't get what i asked for at all (i can achieve this above look with my own natural hair; i wanted an afro!). after much debate with myself, i decided one week later (yesterday) to get it all cropped and start anew. i brought in some images of jean seberg and michelle williams as references and i feel pretty good about it now!

et voilĂ , moi:

le sigh of relief. there are not a lot of ways to go from here, so i believe this case is closed until further notice.

hair inspiration.6.

the time has come for my hair to get the chop...i have been growing it for at least three years now, aiming to have long, luscious beach hair- the kind i'm so often envious of when i have a short do. the truth of the matter is though, that a cropped cut looks much better on me and is actually easier for me to manage. before i do a pixie cut, i am going to get a perm (slated for next week) and short cut. the main inspiration is carrie bradshaw (a.k.a. sarah jessica parker in sex and the city) when she goes to atlantic city, but i have found a lot of similar styles i could be happy with.

my hair at the moment looks like this (though i know, i'm not uschi obermaier ;):

put a crown on it.

my pinterest board by this title 'put a crown on it' is my faaaaavourite to add to...i'm a goner for any sort of headgear; be it beret, turban, scarf, bowl of fruit...it doesn't matter what (except for maybe meat a la lady gaga), i love it. whenever i'm travelling, i feel more inclined to experiment with les chapeaux. i thought i would share with you a compilation of the times i wore nifty noodle toppers on my recent world trip.

working girl.

i watched working girl for the first time yesterday...although it did feel like i had seen it before, perhaps this was the first time from beginning to end.
wow, what a full-blooded 80's extravaganza. from the booming, soulful gospel anthem in the opening credits to the outrageous costume design to the over the top makeup (joan cusack with eyelids brushed half green, half purple!) rounded off with the big, bigger and biggest, permed, teased, perfect 80's hair. i loved the film. what stole my heart the most from watching it though, was HOW MUCH it reminded me of my mom!! she was totally melanie griffith's character when i was growing up. seeing the nylons with the shoulder-padded business suits, the reeboks with the work outfit for the walk to the office (that was totally my mom!) and that huge leather jacket- it had to have been the inspiration for a strikingly similar purchase on a trip she made to new york in this era. wow, the pangs of nostalgia were strong- almost brought a tear to my eye for that. oh, how i love a feel good film.

and i almost forgot...'you want another answer, ask another girl'. best ever.
