Stevie Nicks: Self Portraits

Who knew Stevie Nicks was Queen of the selfie, before the term was even invented?! These self portraits of the (my favourite) singer were taken at home and in hotel rooms throughout the mid-seventies. They have just been released from the shoe-box under the bed, to the public for purchase through the Morrison Hotel Gallery; signed by Stevie!  I love the capturing of make believe in real time; what is more significant to the viewer- the dress up aspect or time and place? It may seem frivolous, but how wonderful to have this strange chronological collection of moments.

Here's what she has to say about the work:

"Some people don't sleep at night - I am one of those people. These pictures were taken long after everyone had gone to bed - I would begin after midnight and go until 4 or 5 in the morning. I stopped at sunrise - like a vampire... I never really thought anyone would ever see these pictures, they went into shoeboxes, where they remained. I did everything - I was the stylist, the makeup artist, the furniture mover, the lighting director. It was my joy - I was the model..."

A girl after my own wild heart; this makes me feel even better now about my floral crown photos!

inspired by: Sia - Chandelier.

i don't feel like i have the right foundation to get into the political arguments that might stem from this video (despite having a background in art history & theory); i just want keep it simple and say that this has .moved.me.

this girl is so gloriously unselfconscious, it makes me wish i had something to focus on so wholeheartedly and with such passion (even for just 3 minutes and 52 seconds). she is incredible. my favourite bit is sitting at the little table- i could watch it on repeat.

don't stop thinking about tomorrow...

oh no!!! fleetwood mac have cancelled their Australian & New Zealand tour...there goes seeing my favourite band for the first time ever live and for my birthday as well. so devastated! founding member John McVie is apparently scheduled for cancer treatment at that time. my thoughts and well wishes are obviously with him, his family and the band. here's to a full recovery and another tour down under in the near future x

she's with the band.

hello all, i've been meaning to tell you for a long time now that if you want to know me at all, you'll need to know of my longtime intrigue/love for the groupie! i have read all the bios (patti boyd (meh...), marianne faithful (a goodie!), carol ann harris (not a groupie i know, but same sort of thing. you get juicy behind the scenes band tidbits while living your high school dream of a rockstar being all gushy over you through her stories), to name a few...). the absolute best of the best is Pamela Des Barres. not only does she have a past as probably the most famous groupie ever (think penny lane in Almost Famous), she is an incredible writer. her book I'm With The Band is my favourite book of all time! i've read Take Another Little Piece of My Heart and it made me super happy too. she has such a way with words; it's as if she is capable of putting to paper all of those silly thoughts we all have but can never really explain out loud. there is also an innocence that comes through in her writing that is charming and captivating. i do love Miss Pamela. i'm just waiting for the day that i can join in one of her writing workshops (please, oh please come to sydney!).

THE book, i love it
